New Wisconsin Casino Features “Whole” Lot of Load Cases for Joist Detailing

Hole in the Wall Casino
Danbury, WI
Any engineer could guess a Hole in the Wall is more complicated than it sounds! For Canam’s Missouri Joist Product Engineering team, multiple load cases, drift loads and difficult design features put the group into an intense planning mode to bring all the elements together for the Hole in the Wall Casino being built in Danbury, WI.

Months of detailing, design and fabrication preceded the delivery of 25 truckloads of longspan, midspan and barrel joists totaling more than 350 tons to the expanded new casino near Lake Superior, opening in December 2008.

Due to the casino’s five separate roof elevations, the detailing team had plenty of challenges to meet. The level three portion of the roof required sloped barrel joists ranging from 15 ft. to 62 ft. in length. The joists were placed on a skewed wall, making a challenge for the detailing of the project. Visit Canam’s Technical Documents section to see the North Roof Framing Plan.
